Stanford leads unbeaten UConn 20-12 at halftime
SAN ANTONIO — Stanford held unbeaten Connecticut to the fewest first half points in a women’s championship game and took a 20-12 halftime lead over the Huskies on Tuesday night.
UConn’s 77-game winning streak seemed in danger as the Huskies made just two of their first 20 shots. It was only the second time UConn has trailed at the half this season.
The other time was also against Stanford, but the Huskies came back to win that game in December and preserve their win streak, which is now an NCAA women’s record.
The previous record for fewest first half points was 17, set by Purdue in 1999.
Stanford was the last team to beat Connecticut. That was in 2008, when the Cardinal defeated the Huskies in the national semifinals.
