KATHMANDU - Playing his best round ever, 16-year-old Ashbeer Saini marched ahead to take a four-shot lead after the completion of the third round of the Surya Nepal Masters which is being played at the par-72 Gokarna Forest Golf Resort.
The Indian amateur carded a round of six-under 66 to total 10-under 206, four clear of local favourite Rupak Acharya.
Rupak who went toe-to-toe with Ashbeer in the early part of the round, could not match the young golfer’s pace and had to be content with a round of two-under 70 which puts him at six-under 210 for the tournament.
The long-hitting Shiva Ram Shrestha made his way into the leadergroup for the final round after shooting a round of three-under 69. His second consecutive under-par round took his tournament total to two-under, one clear of fourth-placed Mithun Perera.
The Sri Lankan amateur shot one-over 73 after a day when his disobedient putter curtailed his challenge. Bangladesh’s Milon Ahmed carded a round of five-under 67 to move into fifth place behind Mithun.
