Liverpool says Torres may miss Spain’s WCup opener

LIVERPOOL, England — Liverpool forward Fernando Torres may miss Spain’s World Cup opener as he recovers from surgery on his right knee.

One of the club’s medical experts, Peter Brukner, said Tuesday it was uncertain whether Torres would be fit for Spain’s game against Switzerland on June 16.

Brukner said Liverpool did not want to rush Torres because it wanted him to be ready for the start of the Premier League season in August.
