SOFIA, BULGARIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Chess champion Viswanathan Anand must have faced a challenge that equals the game when he recently landed at the Frankfurt airport in Germany on his way to Bulgaria for a title match which was to be held there. While playing a game of chess is in itself a brainstorming session, the master chess player remained stranded at the Frankfurt airport because of the disruption in flight schedules caused by the eruption of the volcano in Iceland.
The fact that his opponent for the title for which he was headed to Bulgaria was Veselin Topalov only helped to make the situation worse. Viswanathan Anand and Veselin Topalov had been involved in a feud when the latter accused the former of not putting in his best efforts in raising funds for the prize money amount of $2.6 million. Adding to the woes of the chess champion were the organizers of the event in Bulgaria. Though he was stranded in the airport with no fault of his own, Viswanathan Anand was not given a three-day allowance for appearing at the game. After much requesting on behalf of the master, a one-day delay was granted.
Veselin Topalov refused to talk to Viswanathan Anand during the games, this further adding to the tension. After losing the first game, the player did put up a brave fight to win the second, but according to reports till Wednesday the game has ended in a draw. Therefore the 12 game series has ended in a draw with eight games being completed as of yet. Now we see that chess is not the only reason to worry for the master player.
