Fabregas starts jogging, confident of WCup spot

LONDON — Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas has started jogging for the first time since breaking his leg in March, increasing his chances of playing at the World Cup.

Fabregas says he is aiming to play against Saudi Arabia in a friendly on May 29.

The Arsenal captain says his recovery from a cracked fibula is going well and he started jogging Wednesday. He expects to “begin running properly” on Monday.

The 23-year-old Fabregas cracked his right fibula in a challenge with fellow Spain international Carles Puyol during the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona on March 31.

Fabregas says he will join the national team May 24, five days before the friendly with Saudi Arabia.
