Greipel wins 18th stage of Giro
BRESCIA, Italy — Germany’s Andre Greipel won the 18th stage of the Giro d’Italia in a mass sprint finish Thursday, while David Arroyo Duran held onto the race leader’s pink jersey.
Greipel completed the 87-mile ride from Levico Terme to Brescia in 3 hours, 14 minutes and 59 seconds. Julian Dean of New Zealand took second and Italy’s Tiziano Dall’Antonia finished third.
After reeling in the breakaway pair of Alan Marangoni and Olivier Kaisen, Sky’s Bradley Wiggins initially led the attack over the last mile before fading.
In the overall standings, Arroyo Duran maintains his 2 minute, 27 second lead over Italian rider Ivan Basso.
