Chile leads 1-0 after 60 minutes against Honduras
NELSPRUIT, South Africa — Jean Beausejour’s first-half goal gave Chile a 1-0 lead against Honduras that it held after an hour in the opening match of Group H at the World Cup.
Chile had the bulk of the possession and chances in the first half, with Beausejour breaking through in the 34th minute off Mauricio Isla’s cross.
Ramon Nunez had the best chance of the half for Honduras with a 30-yard free kick in first-half stoppage time. Nunez forced Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to tip the ball over the crossbar after Emilio Izaguirre was tripped by Alexis Sanchez.
Chile again controlled possession as the second half got under way, with Beausejour was tackled by Honduras defender Maynor Figueroa in the 48th minute and didn’t get off a shot.
