DAMBULLA, SRI LANKA (GaeaTimes.com)- The highly anticipated 4th game of the Asia Cup between India and Pakistan turned out to be the ultimate thriller that ended in the final over. With all the twists and turns of a typical India-Pakistan clash the match was the perfect opportunity for Cricket to steal some audience eye-balls from the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Pakistan batting first had the best possible start with Salman Butt and Imran Farhat getting a steady opening partnership going. Shoaib Malik who came 1st down too played well to provide the right platform for a 300+ score. The collapse began with the wicket of Shoaib Malik (39) and then the dismissal of Salman Butt within the next few balls made sure that Pakistan’s momentum was slowed. With more quick wickets India looked on top and a small cameo from Karan Akmal helped Pakistan to a total of 267.
India started off slow with Virender Sehwag reaching an agonizing 10 off 32 balls. Gautam Gambhir however was his usual self as he steadied the Indian ship with a healthy run rate. With a good distribution of boundaries and excellent running between the wickets, the match looked under control for India as skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni looked good enough to finish off the game. A sudden collapse however ended up leaving Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar at the crease in the final over with 3 needed off 2 balls. The nail-biter ended with Harbhajan Singh smashing six in the second last over to ensure Pakistan’s exit from the Asia Cup. India will now be facing hosts Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup.
