Portugal dominates NKorea early on
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Ricardo Carvalho hit the post on a corner as Portugal had the best of play in the opening 15 minutes of its World Cup match Monday against North Korea.
In the seventh minute, goalkeeper Ri Myong Guk totally misjudged a corner, allowing Chelsea’s Carvalho an open header on goal from 10 yards out. It crashed against the post.
After hours of rain, several players lost their footing early on at Green Point Stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo had a deflected shot on goal in the 3rd minute which was easily held by Ri.
In the 11th minute, Cha Jong Hyok had North Korea’s first scoring chance, but it went just wide from 20 yards out.
