Spain leads Honduras 2-0 after 75 minutes
JOHANNESBURG — David Villa has missed a penalty kick, but earlier scored twice to give Spain a 2-0 lead against Honduras after 75 minutes in their Group H match at the World Cup on Monday.
Villa’s outside shot in the 51st minute went in after a deflection off Honduras defender Osman Chavez. It was his 40th goal for Spain.
In the 17th minute Villa, broke into the area from the left and beat three defenders before scoring with a right-footed shot. It was Spain’s first goal at this World Cup after losing 1-0 to Switzerland in the opening match.
Villa hit the crossbar in the seventh minute and send a penalty kick wide right in the 62nd.
Honduras struggled to cross the halfway line at Ellis Park.
