Portugal dominates and leads NKorea 1-0 after 30
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Raul Meireles scored in the 29th minute to give Portugal a 1-0 halftime lead over North Korea in its World Cup group match.
Ricardo Carvalho had already hit the post with a header as Portugal dominated before Meireles scored with a low shot from about 12 yards, latching on to a deep pass from Tiago.
Playing in a constant rain, several players lost their footing at Green Point Stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo had little impact on the game.
Cha Jong Hyok had North Korea’s first shot on goal in the 11th minute but it went just wide from 20 yards out. Its best chance came in the 18th when goalkeeper Eduardo could not hold on to a fierce shot from Hong Yong Jo but Pak Nam Chol headed the loose ball over.
