Sundar consolidates lead in Asian Junior chess

CHENNAI - International Master M. Shyam Sundar of India consolidated his position at the top of the leaderboard by agreeing for a 28-move draw with compatriot Mehar Chinna Reddy in the seventh round of the Asian Junior chess championship, here Monday.
The draw put Shyam Sundar on six points, ahead of IM Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, FM S. Nitin, and two untitled players, Swayams Mishra and Reddy (all 5.5 points).
In the girls section, WFMs, Vo Thi Kim Phung of Vietnam and Nakhbayeva Guliskhan of Kazakhstan shared the lead with six points apiece, followed by two Indians, defending champion WIM Padmini Rout and R. Preethi.
