Australia and Serbia 0-0 after 15 minutes
NELSPRUIT, South Africa — Australia and Serbia are 0-0 after 15 minutes of their Group D World Cup match at Mbombela Stadium.
Serbia started stronger in a match in which both teams have a chance to advance.
Milos Krasic, playing wide on the right, caused Australia some early troubles. He got past defender David Carney and into the box in the second minute before falling to ground, looking at the assistant referee for a penalty.
He got into a shooting position in the sixth minute but his powerful strike was tipped behind the net by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. He then failed to convert a one-on-one chance in the 12th minute.
Australia needs to win and have the result of the other group D match between Germany and Ghana go its way. Serbia will advance with a victory but might progress with a draw. A loss will eliminate it.
