Slovenia, England tied 0-0 after 15 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — England started nervously in its must-win Group C match against Slovenia at the World Cup and Wednesday’s game remained tied 0-0 after the first 15 minutes.
A few passes from the English defense failed to find their targets and Slovenia had the best chance of the early exchanges.
In the seventh minute, Slovenia midfielder Valter Birsa cut in from the left-hand side but his shot was routinely saved by English goalkeeper David James.
England needs a win to guarantee a place in the round of 16 following two draws against the United States and Algeria, while surprise group leaders Slovenia only needs a draw.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium was nearly filled to its 48,000 capacity at kick off.
