Paraguay, New Zealand tied 0-0 after 60 minutes
POLOKWANE, South Africa — Paraguay and New Zealand created few scoring opportunities and remain tied at 0-0 after 60 minutes of their last Group F game at the World Cup.
New Zealand midfielder Simon Elliott had the first second-half chance when he picked up the ball after sloppy defending just outside the Paraguay area — but shot wide.
Paraguay dominated possession but failed to do much against a fierce New Zealand defense.
The South Americans had several attempts from long range, but defender Denis Caniza shot wide twice, while New Zealand goalkeeper Mark Paston saved a low shot from striker Nelson Valdez.
Paraguay leads the group and only needs a draw to advance, while New Zealand must win to guarantee it moves on.
