NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- The Portland Blazers traded Martell Webster to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange of Ryan Gomes during Thursday’s NBA Drafts. The 6 year veteran forward was handed to Minnesota Timberwolves by the Portland Blazers by the President of Basketball Operations to clear the salary cap for the side.
Martell Webster was picked in the 2005 drafts by the Portland Blazers and also signed a $20 million deal with the team in 2006. He however missed out on the 2008-2009 season due to a leg injury. Earlier this year, however, he scored his career-high of 28 points against the Detroit Pistons. For the Minnesota Timberwolves, Martell Webster will join star shooter Wesley Johnson as the forward. He will also be part of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ wing rotation along side lottery pick Corey Brewer giving the team the much needed depth. He is also known as ‘The Definition’ because of his surname that is synonymous with a highly popular dictionary. The 23 year old stands at 6′4″ and weighs 205 pounds.
David Kahn said while making the trade that he was looking in to various factors that included toughness, shooting and defense. The exchange between the Portland Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves came at an awkward time as the Portland Blazers General manager Kevin Pritchard was fired from the side just before the NBA drafts started. David Kahn was, however, appreciative of the professional manner in which Kevin Pritchard handled the trade of Martell Webster and Ryan Gomes. Other highlights of the evening included the number one pick by the Washington Wizards in John Wall and number two by the Philadelphia 76ers in Evan Turner.
