Uruguay leads SKorea 1-0 after 30 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Luis Suarez’s early goal is keeping Uruguay 1-0 up on South Korea after 30 minutes of the teams’ World Cup second-round match.
Suarez struck in the eighth minute with a one-timer from a tight angle, after a cross by Diego Forlan on the left flank was allowed to bounce untouched to the far post.
Forlan is leading Uruguay’s fast breaks as the Koreans fail to turn greater possession into clear chances.
South Korea hit the post in the fifth minute on Park Chu-young’s curled free kick from 22 yards.
A minute later, Forlan’s shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong.
The winner plays a quarterfinal against the United States or Ghana, who meet later Saturday.
