Gerrard, Lampard call for Capello to stay
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard say they’d like Fabio Capello stay on as England manager despite the team’s early exit from the World Cup.
England lost 4-1 to Germany in the round of 16 on Sunday in Bloemfontein, sending the English home.
England captain Gerrard wants Capello to retain his post because “he’s a fantastic manager.”
Lampard called Capello a “top manager” who he’s “enjoyed working with” and that he’d also like for the Italian to stay on.
Capello said he will discuss his future with the chairman of the Football Association soon. Capello has a contract until after the 2012 European Championship.
