Dutch lead Slovakia 1-0 after 60 minutes
DURBAN, South Africa — The Netherlands leads Slovakia 1-0 after 60 minutes Monday in the round of 16 match, with Arjen Robben scoring his first goal in this tournament.
Robben eluded two defenders to put in his low shot in the 18th minute and keep the Dutch on course for their fourth straight win in South Africa. Robben nearly added a second in the 50th minute, and a minute later set up Joris Mathijsen, whose shot at close range was blocked by Slovak keeper Jan Mucha.
Robin van Persie squandered three first-half chances, but the Dutch continued to comfortably dominate the match at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Slovakia rarely threatened, unlike the attacking performance it produced to eliminate Italy 3-2 in its final group game.
