Dutch lead Slovakia 1-0 after 75 minutes
DURBAN, South Africa — The Netherlands is on course for its fourth straight World Cup victory, leading Slovakia 1-0 on a goal by Arjen Robben through 75 minutes Monday in the round of 16 match.
Robben eluded two defenders to score in the 18th minute as the Dutch comfortably dominated, yet squandered successive chances.
Slovakia did little to repeat the attacking performance it produced to eliminate Italy 3-2 in its final group game, but came alive after one hour.
Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg did well to block back-to-back shots on goal from Miroslav Stoch and Robert Vittek in the 67th minute.
