Spain dominates Portugal early, but score tied 0-0
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Spain is dominating the early stages of a 0-0 second-round match with Portugal at the World Cup.
Striker Fernando Torres tested Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo after only two minutes with a curling, right-footed shot from the corner of the box. Eduardo made a fine save, and two more from shots by striker David Villa.
Spain was directing its attack down Portugal’s right side, where Ricardo Costa was starting at fullback ahead of Paulo Ferreira and Miguel.
Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso recovered from a right ankle sprain to start.
The winner will play in the quarterfinals against Paraguay.
