Spain, Portugal tied at 0-0 after 30 minutes
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Spain is dominating the first half of its round-of-16 World Cup match with Portugal, but the score remains level at 0-0 after 30 minutes.
Striker Fernando Torres tested Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo after only two minutes with a curling, right-footed shot from the corner of the box. Eduardo made a fine save, and two more off shots by striker David Villa.
Portugal’s best chance came in the 21st minute when Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas’ block of a Raul Meireles shot almost went into his own goal. But Casillas recovered to clear ahead of the charging Portugal striker Hugo Almeida.
Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo had a free kick that was well saved by Casillas in the 28th minute.
