After 60: Netherlands, Uruguay tied at 1-1
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Diego Forlan and Giovanni van Bronckhort’s first-half goals had the Netherlands and Uruguay tied at 1-1 after 60 minutes of their World Cup semifinal Tuesday.
Forlan curled a shot from 25 yards in the 41st minute for his fourth World Cup goal. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg touched the ball but couldn’t keep it out.
That followed one of the best goals of the tournament from Van Bronckhorst.
The 35-year-old Netherlands captain lashed a 30-yard shot into the top corner in the 18th minute, capping a fine series of Dutch passes.
Van Bronckhorst also cleared a goal-bound Uruguayan effort in the 51st minute after some sloppy Dutch defending.
The winner meets either Germany or Spain in Sunday’s final.
