Uruguay, Germany at 2-2 after 60 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Uruguay and Germany are tied 2-2 after 60 minutes of a pulsating third-place playoff at the World Cup on Saturday.
Diego Forlan volleyed in Egidio Arevalo’s 51st-minute cross to put Uruguay 2-1 ahead with his fifth goal of the tournament.
But defender Marcell Jansen brought Germany even just five minutes later with a header after Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera misjudged a cross.
Thomas Mueller had given Germany a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, sweeping the ball home after Bastian Schweinsteiger’s swerving shot was stopped by Muslera.
Edinson Cavani then equalized for Uruguay in the 28th when he broke clear, took a pass from Luis Suarez and slid a shot past goalkeeper Hans Joerg Butt.
