Bangladesh stun England with five run win in second ODI at Bristol

BRISTOL - Bangladesh registered their first win in 25 matches by handing out a humiliating five run defeat to England in the second game of the three match one-day international series here.

Bangladesh successfully defended a paltry total of 237 to bowl England out for 231 with three balls to spare.

England collapsed to 115 for five and were 166 for seven in the 40th over when Stuart Broad joined Jonathan Trott, and despite a career best 94 from him, England could not save themselves from a shocking defeat at the hands of the Asian minnows.

England needed 10 off the final over with just one wicket in hand.

Ian Bell, who made a stylish 84 in the previous match at Tent Bridge, joined Trott in the last over after James Anderson lobbed a simple catch back to Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza in the penultimate over.

Bell, who broke his leg while diving to try to take a catch during Bangladesh’s innings, received a standing ovation from the sparse crowd when he came out bat with Eoin Morgan as a runner.

Trott took a couple of twos off the first two balls of the last over, but was caught behind off pacer Shafiul Islam’s third delivery ending his 129-ball innings which nearly saved Andrew Strauss’ men from a stunning defeat.

Earlier, England bowled well and restricted Bangladesh to a modest total of 236 for seven after Strauss won the toss.

Opener Imrul Kayes was the top scorer with 76, while Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 24.

For England, Ajmal Shahzad, who was recalled in place of fast bowler Tim Bresnan, took three for 41 runs, his best figures in limited over cricket.

The third and the last match would be played at Edgbaston on Monday.
