Chivas USA gets first home MLS win since April 10
CARSON, Calif. — Justin Braun and Blair Gavin scored in the first half and Chivas USA beat Columbus 3-1 on Saturday night.
Carlos Borja added a goal in the second half as Chivas (5-9-3) won a league home game for the first time since April 10.
Eastern Conference leader Columbus (10-4-4) lost for just the second time on the road this season. Steven Lenhart scored a late consolation goal.
Braun opened the scoring in the 37th minute when he headed in a cross from Rodolfo Espinoza for his seventh goal of the season. Gavin doubled the lead in the 45th minute after Crew defender Shaun Francis failed to get to a bouncing ball inside the penalty area.
Borja scored in the 53rd minute from about 12 yards out. Lenhart, meanwhile, chipped a ball over Chivas keeper Dan Kennedy in the 88th minute to prevent the shutout.
Columbus lost midfielder Eddie Gaven in the 17th minute after Kennedy inadvertently kneed him in the head. Chivas defender Jonathan Bornstein did not dress for the match due to an ankle injury.
