LONDON - Ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has admitted that he is determined to bring an end to Chelsea’s reign at the top.
Chelsea won the crown last time around by denying Manchester United a fourth straight title.
Ferguson feels Chelsea will be the team to beat again this year, and said that Everton can emerge as a dark horse this season.
“My thoughts are not on the top four because we have to think about how we’re going to win the league. You have to think that Chelsea, after winning it last season, are favourites,” The Sun quoted Ferguson, s saying.
“You normally think the team that won it last year have to be knocked off their perch and they’re in that position at the moment,” he said.
“They will look at, as I would do, how they can stay there. Hopefully us and any one of the other clubs could easily be challenging.”
Ferguson tipped Everton and his friend David Moyes to emerge as serious contenders for the Premier League title this time around.
“The interesting thing is Everton. They have all their players back. The first half of last season was a nightmare for them, injuries to the likes of Mikel Arteta and Phil Jagielka, they were big losses. Now all of these players are fit they could be an interesting prospect,” Ferguson said. (ANI)
