Oz stadium authorities ban use of vuvuzela for Brisbane Roar A-League Games

BRISBANE - Authorities at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane have decided to ban world sport’s latest and most annoying fan accessory, the vuvuzela, for Brisbane Roar A-League games to be held this season.
Stadium General Manager Alan Graham and Roar CEO Peter McLennan said the trumpets, which gained notoriety at the 2010 South Africa World Cup would be seized at the gates.
Graham said the stadium had agreed to a request from the Roar to ban the instrument and was consistent with the stand taken recently by a number of other venues both in Australia and overseas, reports the Courier Mail.
“The nuisance value of the vuvuzela is well documented. Anyone who watched any of the World Cup games would agree the noise they emit is a major inconvenience. The fans said so and so did the players,” Graham was quoted, as saying.
“The event experience for patrons at Suncorp Stadium is just as important to us as what happens on the field of play. We are all about helping the Brisbane Roar create a home town fortress and atmosphere at the Stadium but vuvuzelas bring nothing to the party,” he added.
Meanwhile, McLennan said the Hyundai A-League fans have demonstrated time and again that they are loud and proud to follow Brisbane Roar.
“As a club, we believe the vuvuzela would detract from the fantastic atmosphere already created at Suncorp Stadium. We ask our fans to sing hard, cheer hard and chant hard, but leave the vuvuzelas at home,” he added. (ANI)
