PCB rejects Latif’s proposal to host ODI series against Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned down a proposal by former captain Rashid Latif to host an ODI series against Afghanistan in October.

Latif said that he was aiming to help encourage the Afghanistan cricket team, “but the proposal has been turned down because the PCB says the team is busy in the coming months.”

The former wicketkeeper-batsman is currently the batting coach of the Afghanistan team, which qualified for this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies.

“The Afghani players are quick learners and in view of their recent performance, I can confidently say that they will be able to give a hard time to any teams in the world,” The Daily Times quoted Latif, as saying.

“Staying at the wicket is the key in any format of cricket and this is what the Afghani players are learning to do. They are learning the fundamentals of the game very fast and now my main aim is to acquire Test status for the Afghan team,” he added.

Latif, who runs his own cricket academy in Karachi, further said that he would try to get few Afghani players to get long-term training and coaching at his academy, which would help them adjust to the highest level of cricket. (ANI)
