NEW DELHI - The Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games announced the names of the organizations that bagged the catering contracts for the Games.
Sanjeev Mittal, a member of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, said that the prices quoted earlier were too high, prompting the committee to go in for different packages.
“The request for a proposal was issued long ago, but the rates which were achieved were too high, and the committee was not in a position to pay that higher cost for the obligatory meals. So, that is how it was decided to go in for different packages,” said Mittal.
He said the catering for the lounges has been divided into eight clusters.
“Out of these eight clusters, five have been awarded to a Delhi firm called Seven Seas Private Limited. One cluster is being awarded to a public sector under Ministry of Railways that is IRCTC, (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited), and two to a Mumbai-based firm that is Graviss Hospitality Private Limited,” Mittal added.
While Mittal is in charge of caterers for the venue, the Games Village’s catering is handled by another member of the Organizing Committee, G. G. Thompson.About the (Games) Village catering, we have the master caterer is already in place. It’s a company called Delaware North of Australia, and they are the master caterers,” Thompson said.
He added that menu would be diverse in the village and estimated the total cost to be Rs 939 million.
“All the kitchen equipments were being airlifted from London at a cost of Rs 85.9 million, and that installation would amount Rs 95 million,” he added.
