GUWAHATI - The ninth Asian Arm Wrestling Championship in which around 200 arm wrestlers from eight countries are participating commenced here on Monday.
Apart from India, arm wrestlers from Kazakhstan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iraq and South Korea are taking part in the tournament.
Kazakhstan, with its team of 43-member arm wrestlers is expected to dominate the event.
“Here participants from seven countries, other than India, have come. We were expecting participation from 15 countries. It was our bad luck that due to some visa problems that I don’t know what the problems are, they couldn’t participate. Then also more than 200 competitors have arrived,” said Hashim Reza Zaved, Secretary of Indian Arm Wrestling Federation.
The tournament that will end on August 26 will feature scores of bouts involving both men and women including teen-agers. (ANI)
