Defoe vows to end goal drought

LONDON - Tottenham ace striker Jermain Defoe has said he would end his goal drought and will fight to regain his place in the team.

Defoe has not completed a 90-minute match since February 10, and has been subbed or started on the bench in 16 of Tottenham’s last 19 games.

He has scored just three goals in his last 19 competitive matches, The Sun reports.

“I’m not at all worried about my form. I keep going and at the end of the day it happens to every player. You’re only human and there are times when you’re not scoring but it’s important to keep your head up and be in positions to score,” Defoe said.

“On another day, I could have scored two goals against City on the opening day of the season, which I haven’t done before,” he said.

Defoe hit back at suggestions that Tottenham is not capable of performing on the big stage following their defeat in Berne.

“I don’t understand why people say we bottle it. Who’s going to bottle it? Look at the players we have. A lot were at the World Cup and those who weren’t are full internationals. It’s a massive game, how can you not be up for it?

“People can talk. You can say anything you want but we have great players and we have to go out there and perform,” Defoe said. (ANI)
