MELBOURNE - To make way for full-time selector Greg Chappell, former bowler Merv Hughes may be dumped from Cricket Australia’s selection panel.ughes joined the selection panel in 2005.

One of Hughes, David Boon or fellow Tasmanian Jamie Cox will lose their 40,000-dollar selectors’ job.

Panel chairman Andrew Hilditch has been re-contracted until after the World Cup next April, while the remaining three selectors will know about their continuation in October when Cricket Australia completes a panel review.

“Whoever goes is going to be disappointed. If it’s me, of course I will be. I’ve really enjoyed the role,” Hughes said, adding that the role for Chappell was a plus, even though it puts his position in jeopardy.

“It’s a fantastic appointment for Greg and Australian cricket. My understanding is there will be a board meeting in about six weeks and we’ll know our fate then,” The Herald Sun quoted him, as saying.

Chappell said on Tuesday that there would be four seats on the panel. (ANI)
