DAMBULLA (GaeaTimes.com)- India took on New Zealand in the 6th match of the Tri series in Sri Lanka on Wednesday. It was a crucial tie for both the teams and almost the semifinal of the series. With Sri Lanka already into the finals, the match became highly anticipated for all cricket fans as it promised to be the ultimate thriller. Interestingly, unlike other pitches in the subcontinent, the wicket at Dambulla is known to support fast bowling and New Zealand had the upper hand in that department. In spite of the powerful bowling attack New Zealand were missing veteran left arm spinner Daniel Vettori and seamer Daryl Tuffey for the game. In the batting department, the hard hitting Brendon McCullum was also not donning the Black Cap for the match. With some of the biggest stars missing, the New Zealand team had the uphill task of facing the Indian team which was looking for a much needed comeback after the disaster against Sri Lanka in the 5th game of the tournament.

Choosing to bat first, the Indian batting was on the shoulders of one man from the very start-Virender Sehwag. With wickets crumbling around him, Virender Sehwag blasted the New Zealand bowlers all over the park. The only support for him came in the form of skipper MS Dhoni. The partnership allowed India to reach an almost match winning 223. Virender Sehwag scored the majority of those runs with a blistering 110 of just 93 balls and MS Dhoni remained the not out on 38.

The New Zealand innings never got off to a start. Reeling at 53/8, Kyle Mills offered some resistance to take the score to 118 before the Kiwis folded up to the consistent Indian pace attack.
