CAPE TOWN - Victoria Bushrangers skipper David Hussey insists that Mumbai Indians’ shock defeat in their opening Champions League match was a reminder to his team that having a highly rated team does not ensure success.

Mumbai Indians’ team featured stars Sachin Tendulkar, Kieron Pollard, J.P. Duminy and Lasith Malinga, but was beaten by the Highveld Lions.

The Lions’ best-known player is South African batsman Neil McKenzie.

Hussey said that the result reinforced to him and his teammates that the Bushrangers “have got to be on our game from ball one, and that fielding’s a massive key.”

“Mumbai really relied on its overseas players and the Highveld Lions played as a team. As the old cliche goes, a champion team will always beat a team of champions,” The Age quoted Hussey, as saying.

“We’re going to have to make some tough calls on who we think can get the job done. It will be no sad reflection on those who miss out, it’s just probably a case of trying to read the conditions here and have a look at how games are going and how pitches are playing,” he added.

Hussey further said that the last two training sessions before Tuesday’s match against Chevrolet Warriors would be heavily focused on improving the team’s fielding.

“We haven’t really had much work outdoors. We’ve been up to Darwin and had a couple of practice games here so we really need to hit the ground running when it comes to fielding,” he added. (ANI)
