LONDON - Former welterweight and light-welterweight world champion, Ricky Hatton’s mother has claimed that he took refuge in cocaine after he was knocked out and lost his title in his last fight.
According to The Sun, Hatton’s mom Carol said his life went out of control following his two-round poleaxing by Manny Pacquiao in May 2009.
“He has been depressed since. He feels he was annihilated. He didn’t get chance to say goodbye to his fans and like a typical bloke he has bottled it all up and just cracked,” Carol added.
Hatton, who was accused last weekend of taking “industrial quantities” of the drug on a night out in Manchester, checked into a rehabilitation facility yesterday.
His family supported him in his decision to take refuge in rehab.
“Ricky has taken the brave step of checking himself into the Priory, which is a step the family fully support. Ricky was clearly embarrassed and furious to be there and kept shouting at staff. He’s in for a rocky ride but he knows that he has to do it,” she further stated.
Hatton would reportedly spend 28 days in the rehabilitation center. (ANI)
