India outclass Kazakhstan in Asian volleyball opener

KOLKATA - India began their campaign in the third Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championships (Central Zone) here Friday on a positive note, getting the better of Kazakhstan in straight sets.
The hosts coasted to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-22 win in the second match on the inaugural day of the competition at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The 82-minute encounter saw the Indians pocket the first two sets with an emphatic display before the Kazakhs tried to rally in the third set. However, the Indians exploited the home conditions to the full to prevail over their rivals.
The Indians erred in blocking but chief coach Deshraj said at the post-match press conference that he hoped his charges will improve in the next game.
In the opening game, Iran thrashed a colourless Pakistan 3-0 in a 80-minute contest.
Displaying their superiority in every department, the Iranians won 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18.
Pakistan were badly let down by their servers against the tournament favourites.
Iran will now take on India while Pakistan clash against Kazakhstan Saturday in the four-nation meet.
