MARINA BAY - Reigning Formula One champion Jenson Button has said that he has no plans to join another team, as he wants to see out his career at McLaren.
Button is in the first season of a three-year 18 million pound deal to partner Lewis Hamilton.
“I can see myself finishing my career at McLaren. It is difficult to imagine being in a car that is uncompetitive and having to build up a team. I have been there before and though it is exciting, it is challenging as well,” News of The World quoted Button, as saying.
It is not where I want to be after winning a world championship. I want to be in a team that gives me a chance of fighting for a championship and that is exactly what McLaren have done this year.”
“That’s where I want to be. I know I will always get a fair crack of the whip here. That is good. That is the one thing I asked for when I arrived, that everything is fair. If it is, I am happy to go racing and do the best job I can for them and myself,” he added.
The 30-year-old further admitted that the move to McLaren was a massive step having been at Brawn GP in its various forms for seven years.
“About three years ago, I never thought I would be changing teams. There were more people negative about my move than positive. I was very excited, but you do think, ‘Wow, this is a big step’,” Button said.
“I was turning 30, I had been in F1 for 10 years and I decided to move away from my comfort zone. It’s a shock to the system, but I wanted the challenge of racing for a new team,” he added. (ANI)
