CHENNAI - Volkswagen India and JK Tyres flagged off the fourth round of Polo Cup India 2010 at the Irungattukottai Race Track here.
Speaking to media, Sanjay Sharma, the Motor Sport head gave a brief on the variety of cars that were a part of the race.
“For the first time you have super saloon category which is running with over 30 cars on the grid which has never ever happened in the history of motor sport. You have 20-car grid on VW Polo Cup then you have another 15 cars on the single seated roll on. I think racing has come of age and this is going to take us to the level where we will start our preparedness to welcome formula one in India in 2011.” said Sharma.
Sharma further spoke about the preparations of the upcoming racing events.
“Yes, there is this track of 2011 on schedule. JAYPEE group is the promoter and the owner of this property and everything is ahead of schedule and we at the federation level and we at JK tyres national championship are all trying to do whatever our bits are. There is whole lot of activity that has already started. We already have a team on the grid which is owned by Vijay Mallaya,” he added.
The drivers on the other hand were excited with the kind of exposure the race has provided them.
“See obviously you have exposure to the power, exposure to the speed in the corners, so obviously in the initial stages when we go abroad we are not terrified by the speed of those cars. We are already given exposure here, so we will be actually little comfortable over there.” said Sailesh Bolisetti, the winner of the fourth round of the race.
The Irungattukottai Race Track is the longest track of the season that would give the driver an opportunity to showcase the experience they have gained in the previous three rounds.
The final round will take place at the same track in December 2010. (ANI)
