Fucito’s 2 goals boost Sounders past Marathon, 2-0

SEATTLE — Michael Fucito scored twice for Seattle and the Sounders beat Honduran side CD Marathon 2-0 on Wednesday night in the CONCACAF Champions League.

It was the first group-stage win for the Sounders, who had already been eliminated.

Fucito has scored four of Seattle’s last five goals in the tournament for North American, Central American and Caribbean pro teams.

In the 21st minute, Fucita stole the ball and scored on a breakaway. He scored again on a free kick in the 68th.

CD Marathon missed a chance to tie or take the lead on Saprissa of Costa Rica with one game left for each. Marathon, with six points, needs to win at home against Monterrey, which has already clinched top of the group, and have Saprissa lose or tie in Seattle next month. Anything less and the Costa Rican side makes it to the knockout rounds.
