Petroleum Ministry to reward and Indian sportsperson for winning medal in 2010 CWG

NEW DELHI - Ahead of the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on Sunday announced monetary bonanza for the country’s athletes.
The Petroleum Minister announced rupees 10,00,000 for the Gold medal, rupees 7,50,000 for silver medal and rupees 5,00,000 for the Bronze medal.
“The oil companies have made body ‘Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB). The companies like, ONGC, PPCL, HPCL, GAIL contribute to it. I am announcing today on behalf of these companies that we will give financial help to those sportsmen, who wins medals. Those who win gold will get rupees 10 lakh, rupees 7.5 lakh for silver and five lakh for bronze,” said Deora.
The heir to British throne Prince Charles and President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will jointly declare the Games open on Sunday evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Prince Charles will be reading out the Queen’s message at the start of the Games at the opening ceremony.
Over 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states will participate in the 19th Commonwealth Games to be held from October 3 to 14 in Delhi. (ANI)
