Younis likely to make comeback for upcoming series against Proteas

LAHORE - Pakistani Test batsman Younis Khan is likely to make a comeback in the national squad for the forthcoming series against South Africa, as he and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly decided to mend their differences for the sake of Pakistan cricket’s betterment.

According to well-informed sources, Younis was already in contact with the PCB, and both the parties have now agreed to admit each other’s mistakes in order to move forward for the sake of guarding the national interest, the Dawn reported.

However, it is not confirmed whether the 32-year-old would regain the Test captaincy, which he himself gave up after leading the team in limited-overs series against New Zealand in the UAE late last year, citing lack of players’ support.

Younis’s complete silence over his non-selection in the team had sent positive signals to the PCB, sources revealed, adding that Yawar Saeed’s departure as the team manager also enhanced his chances of returning to the national squad.

Meanwhile, the former captain is all set to play for English county Warwickshire for the 2011 season, subject to a medical and a work permit application.

“Everyone at Warwickshire is delighted that we have been able to complete the signing of Younus from the start of the 2011 season,” said Warwickshire director of cricket Ashley Giles. “He is a great addition to the Bears’ squad and will add tremendous depth to our batting line-up.”

Younis has also stated that he is “really looking forward to playing at Warwickshire next year and maintaining their high standards. Warwickshire have a fantastic team with Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott, and a great coach in Ashley Giles, so with the new ground development as well it’s all very exciting.”

Younis, a veteran of 63 Tests and 202 One-day Internationals, and six other players were penalised by the PCB in March over disciplinary issues following the team’s winless tour to Australia under the captaincy of Mohammad Yousuf. (ANI)
