Cricket will make headlines for right reasons with Ashes after ‘tainted’ Pak tour: Trott

LONDON - England batsman Jonathan Trott has said that the Ashes series is a chance for cricket to make headlines for the right reasons.

England plays the five- match Test series against Australia after a mentally draining second half to the summer against Pakistan.

England emerged victorious in all three formats of the game, but the tour was dogged with allegations of spot fixing against three of the Pakistan players.

Tensions also increased between the England and Pakistan players, with Trott involved in an ugly bust-up with Wahab Riaz.

Trott is delighted to have some time away from the game before the squad flies to Australia at the end of the month.

“At the end of the day England played the games and won the one-day series against Pakistan, but I think that everyone was pleased to see a long summer of cricket come to an end,” The Sun quoted Trott, as saying.

“There is now a break before the Ashes and that gives people time to be starved of cricket a bit and get ready for an exciting series. Supporters will have had a break and the players will have had the chance to recharge batteries ready to crack on,” he said.

“I am pretty confident cricket will be in the headlines for the right reasons and the Ashes will restore the dignity of the way the game is played, why it’s such a special game and what the Ashes is all about and the history behind it,” Trott added. (ANI)
