LONDON - England’s ace defender Rio Ferdinand has said that he is fit, and has sent a message to manager Fabio Capello to return the captain’s job back to him.
Ferdinand was named England skipper when John Terry was stripped of the armband eight months ago over off-field allegations. But the Manchester United defender got injured just before the World Cup began and Steven Gerrard has been leading the Three Lions ever since.
Capello, however, wants to assess Ferdinand’s form and fitness before committing himself.
Ferdinand believes he has answered doubts over his fitrness with his performances in United’s last two matches against Valencia and Sunderland.
“Rio has done everything he can to show Capello he is back to his best. Of course he wants to be captain. It means a lot to him,” an England insider told The Sun.
Gerrard on the other hand has so far led by example, showing how determined he was that the team should put the World Cu[p debacle behind. (ANI)
