NEW DELHI - Krishna Poonia, who scripted history to lift the women’s discuss throw gold in athletics event since Milkha Singh won the 440 yards race in 1958, called on Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Dr. C.P. Joshi at Krishi Bhawan here today.
Poonia was accompanied by her husband and coach Virender Poonia (a former hammer thrower), and Executive Director of National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, Laxman Singh Ranawat.
“Krishna Poonia has made the nation proud with her glorious achievement. Her performance will motivate the youngsters to come forward in the track and field events and bring laurels for the country,” said Dr Joshi.
Twenty-eight-year-old Poonia later thanked Dr. Joshi for the constant encouragement.
She said that such felicitations will give a boost to her confidence and she would try to emulate the field at the next Asian Games and Olympics.
