NEW DELHI - Government of India has decided to extend the tenure of the Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games .

The move came in the wake of the setting up of a high-level committee to look into the matters relating to organising and conduct of the mega event.

Talking to reporters after presiding over Group of Ministers’ meeting on Commonwealth Games in the capital today, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said that senior officials made available to the Organising Committee by the Centre, would be allowed to continue till further orders.

On the issue of winding up the CWG’s organising committee, Reddy said, it was for the Sports Ministry to decide on it.

Today, meet of the Group of Ministers was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, besides Sports Minister M S Gill.

Asked if corruption allegations came up during today’s meeting , Reddy said the GoM did not discuss allegations of corruption.

Reddy, however, welcomed the decision on the setting up of a probe panel by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and informed that the Group of Ministers expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of the Commonwealth Games.

The Group of Ministers was expected to look into the allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the lead-up to the commonwealth games .

The Ministers group was expected to look into aspects of the games organisation, like work allocated to different government agencies including the Delhi Development Authority, and where they failed.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party today demanded probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe about reports of corruption in Commonwealth Games projects.

“The spat between Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and CWG Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi that has come out in the open only reinforces the public opinion that the main aim of the organisers was to grab money,” said BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay here today. (ANI)
