LONDON - Surrey wicketkeeper Steven Davies believes Chris Tremlett could fill the breach in the England pace attack created by the rib injury to James Anderson when they take on Australia in the first two Ashes Tests Down Under.

“First and foremost he had a great season. He has been fantastic. A lot of the time he has got wickets but when he hasn’t he’s gone for very few runs, which is what you want,” Davies said of Tremlett.

“On true, flat wickets in Australia if you are not knocking back poles then the captain will be happy at least not to go for runs. Every time we’ve needed wickets we’ve thrown him the ball. He is quick, facing him in the nets hasn’t been nice but he’s varied that depending on the pitch. He’s been quite smart,” Davies added.

“Going to Australia for the Ashes we know there is going to be a lot of hype around it from the moment we get off the plane. We know we have to stick together and if we don’t we know we won’t come back with the Ashes, it is as simple as that.

“Little exercises like the Germany trip will make us all stronger,” he said. (ANI)
