Proteas, Pak to focus on one-dayers ahead of World Cup in India

ABU DHABI - South Africa and Pakistan have shifted focus to the five-match one-day series starting here on Friday, as they see the event as ideal for next year’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Both captains-Graeme Smith and Shahid Afridi-have urged their teams to focus on the series, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
South Africa are in top form after thumping a hapless Zimbabwe 3-0 in a one-day series at home and beating Pakistan in two Twenty20 matches in a prelude to the 50-over matches.
“It will be the first taste of the sub-continent conditions before the World Cup,” Smith said of the series here.
He added: “South Africa is keen on the development of the side before the World Cup and are excited to be here.”
Afridi said his players were focused on the task at hand.
“What happened on the England tour is now past and this is a new series and a new challenge for which we are fully focused,” said Afridi. (ANI)
