AHMEDABAD - New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has expressed the hope that the injection of players not involved with the Bangladesh cricket debacle will lift morale ahead of the test series starting in India on Thursday.t maybe recalled that New Zealand lost a one-day series 4-0.

“This is test cricket and we’ve got quite different personnel. We had six to seven guys in Zimbabwe in the A series scoring runs and taking wickets. They’re not affected by what happened in Bangladesh and we’re hoping they can really lead us with the confidence they have at the moment,” the NZPA quoted Vettori, as saying.

“We’re obviously extremely disappointed with that result. We’ve got an opportunity to come to India now and try to rectify that,” he added.

He said: “You can’t dwell on it. We have to acknowledge we played poorly in Bangladesh but you also have to acknowledge it’s a new series.”

India recently beat Australia 2-0 in a home test series and also prevailed 1-0 in a three-match one-day series in which two matches were washed out.

The hosts will be boosted by the return of batsmen Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman, and pace bowler Ishant Sharma, who all missed the second test against Australia at Bangalore.

The first Test is being played in Ahmedabad, the second in Hyderabad from November 12 and the third in Nagpur from November 20. The series is followed by five one-day matches next month. (ANI)
