I’m not a casualty of Bangladesh debacle, says resigned Kiwi cricket GM Allott

AUCKLAND - New Zealand Cricket’s General Manager Geoff Allott has said that he has not resigned from his post over the Black Caps’ recent embarrassing 0-4 ODI series loss to Bangladesh.I appreciate the connection that will be made timing-wise. I’m not a casualty. I think it came as a surprise to Justin [Chief Executive Justin Vaughan] and the Chairman [Chris Moller] when I let them know,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Allott, as saying.

Allott, who was the General Manager for 23 months, had the responsibility to oversee the development of a long-term high-performance strategy.

He had claimed that it became clear in recent months that a different allocation of resources would be required for the team.

“This was reinforced to me during the recent review following the Bangladesh tour. I believe our elite athletes and teams need a combination of the best available high performance expertise and the knowledge of cricket experts who understand the technical aspects of the game,” Allott had said.

“On that basis the high performance structure that I consider is best for cricket’s future would be different to the current structure, and with a different allocation of resources. I have effectively restructured myself out of a job, but I truly believe this to be in the best interests of cricket,” he added.

The 40-year-old will leave the national body at the end of this month. (ANI)
